Today, I turn 23!
I always loved birthdays growing up and absolutely love most parties with the celebrations, decorating, cakes, and all the party things. Let’s just say, with all of the Pinterest ideas in my head, I’m not one of those “low key” kind of people when it comes to big celebrations.
But my birthday this year, not just because of Covid, but just in general is quiet. And I am LOVING it.
Because I’m embracing JOMO (the joy of missing out)!
I’m going to be home playing with the kids all day.
I‘m going to try to take a nap.
I’m going to laugh a lot with my family.
I‘m going to enjoy some sushi.
I’m going to snuggle up to my husband and watch tv before we fall asleep.
I’m going to eat as much ice cream as I please.
I’m going to work on my paintings.
I may or may not be up for midnight, and I’m perfectly fine with that!
As a 23 year old being married with two kids, this actually doesn’t sound like missing out at all. It sounds like my FAVORITE YEAR EVER.
Because I am choosing to embrace the JOMO in every situation now. As someone who LOVES to always reach for a goal, this is the heart of God in so many ways...to look inward, to be grateful for all that He’s done, and to be content.
And I guess that’s my challenge for all of you as well. To no longer have FOMO. But instead replace that fear of missing out with JOY in knowing that God has you EXACTLY where He needs you. And that He is always with you. So with that in mind, there is no missing out. There is only His joy and presence, which is all we ever need.
