Shepard's Pie

What's better than mashed potatoes, on top of meat, and it all covered with cheese? Nothing, that's what. Haha. And if you think the same, you are going to LOVE this Shepard's pie recipe.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 Lbs. of Ground Beef

  • 1 White Onion, Chopped

  • 1/2 Tsp. of Salt or Seasoned Salt

  • 1/2 Tsp. of Pepper

  • 1 Cup of Beef Broth

  • 1 Tbsp. of Worcestershire Sauce

  • 2 Tbsp. of Butter

  • 2 Tbsp. of Flour

  • 1 1/2 Cups of Frozen Peas and Carrots

  • 5 Potatoes, Peeled and Boiled

  • 1-2 Tbsp. of Butter

  • Milk

  • Salt and Pepper for Taste

  • 1 1/2 Cup of Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Directions:

  1. For the filling, brown the meat and onion in a pan, seasoning it off with salt and pepper. Once cooked drain the oil from it and add in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, cooking for about 5 minutes on medium-high heat. Add in the butter, letting it melt in. And stir it all together.

  2. Add in the flour, 1 Tbsp at a time to thicken up the broth to form gravy. Then add in the vegetables. Let it sit for 5 more minutes.

  3. For the topping, mash the potatoes with the butter and some milk (I like a lot of milk to make it smooth but how much totally depends on your liking). Seasoning with some salt and pepper.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.

  5. While waiting for it to heat up, place the meat mixture into a baking dish, placing the mashed potatoes on the top.

  6. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown.

  7. Place the cheese on the top and broil for about 5 minutes.

  8. Enjoy!

I sometimes like to make steps 1-5 (without oven heating) all before hand, refrigerate it, and that way all you have to do is bake it later. You can also make it a little leaner by replacing the ground beef with chicken or turkey. And if you'd like to use fresh veggies, I usually add them in during step 1 with the broth so that they can cook on time. Well, I hope you all enjoy and let me know how it turn out in the comments!
